PROGRAMMING PAYOFF: Netflix's increasing emphasis on exclusive, high-caliber series helped the Internet video service add 1.3 million more U.S. subscribers during its latest quarter. The gains announced Monday contributed to a quadrupling of the Los Gatos, Calif., company's profit during the third quarter.
MARQUEE ATTRACTION: The three-month period ending in September featured the debut of "Orange Is The New Black," a critically acclaimed series set in a women's prison. The show can only be seen on Netflix's $8-per-month service.
RAVE REVIEWS: Netflix's stock soared nearly 11 percent in extended trading. The shares have more than quadrupled in value so far this year.
