GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) — Schalke has signed Germany youth international Leon Goretzka from second-division side Bochum.
The Bundesliga club says the 18-year-old midfielder has joined on a five-year contract through to June 2018. Goretzka has been training with the squad since July 3 while the last details of the deal were finalized.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt says "Leon is among the most talented players in all of Germany and has huge potential. He was on the radar for many clubs but sees the best perspective for further development with us."
Goretzka has played for Germany from under-16 level to the under-19 team.
