AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn coach Gus Malzahn insists it's not about him.
Malzahn is leading the eighth-ranked Tigers back to his home state of Arkansas on Saturday to face the Razorbacks. He launched his career in the state as a high school coach and unwittingly became a polarizing figure.
He was Arkansas' offensive coordinator in 2006 before bolting for the same job at Tulsa. Malzahn also spent last season as Arkansas State's head coach then returned to lead Auburn's program.
As a college assistant, he's 0-3 in Fayetteville. Malzahn insists this is just "a normal game on the road."
Auburn tight end C.J. Uzomah, though, expects it to be "an emotional reunion" for the head coach.
Tigers offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and running backs coach Tim Horton played and coached for the Razorbacks.
